    Aikido was created by Morihei Ueshiba (植芝 盛平 Ueshiba Morihei, 14 December – 26 April ), referred to by some aikido practitioners as Ōsensei (Great Teacher).The term aikido was coined in the twentieth century. Ueshiba envisioned aikido not only as the synthesis of his martial training, but as an expression of his personal philosophy of universal peace and or arts: Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu.   But an approach surprisingly close to this in spirit – admittedly without the somersaults – lies at the heart of a book entitled Aikido In .
